Dealing with Souris Maison in Your Home
27 01 2012A house mouse, which is called souris maison in areas of the world where people speak French, is a common pest in many residential properties. The house mouse differs from the common field mouse in that it has evolved to depend upon humans for food, shelter and other resources. Though these mice are not as feared as rats or other household intruders, they can carry disease and make a home very unpleasant for its residents and guests. If you have a mouse problem and you are looking for ways to eradicate the creatures, there are some simple things you can do to get rid of them.
The most effective means of getting rid of house mice is to set carefully baited traps throughout your home. Simple, wooden snap traps are the most effective traps and they can be reused almost infinitely. Most importantly, these traps are very inexpensive. If you are looking for the most economical way to get rid of mice in your home, snap traps are the best option. Purchase a handful of traps, then set them with peanut butter as the bait. They should be placed in areas where mice are known to travel or congregate. Check the traps daily and you should find deceased mice caught in the traps on a regular basis until the infestation has been eradicated. If you use this method, be sure to dispose of the dead mice carefully.
A more humane alternative to using snap traps is setting live traps. These traps are more expensive, but they trap the creatures without killing them. Once a mouse has been trapped, you can transport the trap to an area where you can safely release it back into the wild. Make sure you go far enough away from your home that the mice do not simply follow you back. Though using live traps is more time-consuming and expensive, it is a viable option if you are concerned about humane animal treatment.
If you have tried traps but they do not seem to work very effectively, you should probably contact a professional extermination company to get rid of the mouse infestation. You can certainly try to use chemicals and poisons on your own, but consumer-level products are not nearly as powerful as those available to exterminators. Also, exterminators can offer a guarantee that the mice have been completely eradicated from your home. This allows you to take a hands-free approach to mouse extermination, which may suit you. However, hiring an exterminator can be costly.
If you have a problem with mice in your home, you are not alone. Mice have an uncanny ability to find their way into homes to get access to the things they need. If you keep your home clean and sanitary, you can reduce the probability of mice entering your home, but you can never make your house completely mouse-proof. If you have noticed mice in your home, be sure to take steps to remove them as soon as you can. Traps are effective, but if you want to get the job done right, you may want to hire an exterminator. By doing so, you can eliminate the souris maison from your home completely.
